Geography

In June 2013, 60.6% of candidates achieved Grade C or higher in geography GCSE. This included many students in Year 10 who took their GCSE one year early. All candidates achieved a grade A-G. This represented a significant improvement in results from the previous year.

From September 2013, there has been an AS geography class at the school. From September 2014 there will be an AS set in Year 12 and an A2 set in Year 13. The subject is increasingly popular and there are three large GCSE sets currently in Years 9, 10 and 11.

There is a team of four geography teachers and all geography classes are taught by these specialist teachers. The Department has a base in C-block, to where it relocated in September 2013.

The classrooms have been extensively re-furbished and are very well equipped. There is also a departmental office. The department opens classrooms at lunchtime and after school for pupils who want to do extension work or revise work they have done in classes. There are revision classes for Year 11 from January until examinations are taken in June. There is a Geography Club which meets on Thursday lunchtimes in Week 2.
